John Patrick Telfer, Owner and Chef de Cuisine, Chef by Design Catering Co.
Chef John Patrick Telfer has spent more than 30 years in the culinary and hospitality industry, building a career that has taken him from the kitchens of prestigious hotels and restaurants to owning and operating multiple hospitality businesses.
A Certified Executive Chef and Pastry Chef, John spent 7 years working alongside Milos Cihelka, the first American Master Chef. His career has included leading culinary operations at The Ritz-Carlton in Naples, Florida, opening 10 restaurants across the country, and cooking for celebrities, dignitaries, and private clients.
Today, John is the Executive Chef and Owner of Chef by Design Catering Company, as well as two premiere event venues, The Neon House and The Beaumont 759, located in Norfolk, VA. Together, with co-owner and wife, Marcy, they continue to build this hospitality collective, with a new patisserie scheduled to open in late 2026.
As both a chef and business owner, John knows firsthand what it takes to bring the culinary and operational sides of a business together. He's passionate about food made from scratch, surrounding himself with talented people, and creating an environment where great food and genuine hospitality go hand in hand, and mentoring those in this industry.
Away from work, John is a devoted husband and father of five who enjoys spending time with family, staying active, and traveling.
